Good Question

Published on February 18, 2009 by in Being Me, Blogging

I don’t have to tell you there are countless blogs out there. There are parenting blogs, political blogs, advocacy blogs, personal life blogs, tragedy and joy, adoption and abortion, pet and friend blogs. Blogs. Blogs. Blogs.

And it makes one think (at least it makes me think) what is my blog about?

I’m not political. I voted, yes. But I am one of those uninformed voters who voted across party lines and hoped for the best. I would make a horrible political blogger.

I’m not overtly funny. Really, I’m not. Don’t even try to convince that I kinda am. Because I’m not. This is the antithesis of a comedy blog.

I engage in a great deal of therapy writing, but that’s not exactly something one would share with the world after the path someone (like me) has been down. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. My therapy writing goes on paper, not in my blog.

I’m a mom. Therefore, I’m a mommy blogger, right? Well, not so much. I do most of my mommy blogging on Little Miss E’s site. I wanted this blog to be for me. Many would agree, I am simply selfish that way. This is far from a mom blog.

I’m a lesbian/married to a man/divorced/lesbian mom. So what. There are lots of us out there. More than you would realize. Being a lesbian doesn’t define who I am, although I do touch on gay and lesbian topics. It affects me. It affects my family, therefore, I blog about it. But this isn’t JUST a gay mom blog.

I’m an advocate. True. I advocate for my children, for those with disabilities, for the LGBT community and for those with medical conditions such as Celiac Disease and Parkinson’s. But my voice is soft, if not unheard altogether. I advocate in my daily life, for those I love, but my efforts fail to reach outside my own home and community. I’m no advocate blogger.

My blog really doesn’t fit into any one category.

Maybe because I don’t fit into any one category.

And I’m okay with that.

I don’t need to fit into any one’s box of who or what I should be. I don’t need to be defined by the labels placed on me or the roles assigned to my life.

I wear many hats. I go by many names.

And I like it that way.

What is YOUR blog about?

I have two actually, one about our adoption, and the other one I just haven't decided yet. By the way, it's nice to see you again. I used to keep up with your other blog from way back when. God Bless, Shea01 from downsyn, p.s if you want an invite to my blog, send me your email to sheadrummond@hotmail.com I had to make it private for various reasons you'll see if you log onto it.

Darn, and I thought your blog was about ferrets.

    ba dum pum.

I'm with "babywearing," I like learning about people through their blogs . . . and everyone I know that's worth their salt has more than one identity (not like Aliases or identity theft, but like mother, sister, daughter, manager, writer . . . you get me).

My blog is about beauty? Some days. Mostly it's about loving getting comments. Thanks for yours by the way.

Mine seems to be an endless loop of kids, dogs, work and exwife.

Just whatever is floating around in my pea brain!

My blog is just whatever is going on. It seems to be an endless loop of kids, dogs, work and exwife.

Sometimes I post things, reread them and say "who the hell would want to read that?" I don't delete though!

Mine's like a personal diary, but with added ranting and photographs, I think!

Mine started out as a way to tell people what was going on with our two (chronically ill) kids, but it has morphed into a therapy blog. So, a special needs momma, who needs some cheap therapy.

I don't know that I have a single over-arching topic, either. My blog is about me, and about my family, and things that matter to us right now. I've been blogging for nearly 6 years, and my oldest child is 4 so my blog has changed as I have. Although I do think that it is helpful to have something to pull it all together, I don't think that needs to be a single over-arching topic or focus that never changes.

My blog is about me and stuff I like. I don't like stuff that sucks. The stuff I like is cool.

my blog is about whatever happens to be on my mind at the time! that ranges from random songs/videos, to photography, to rants about any number of things and much much more.
which is why i've enjoyed reading your blog because it's not just about one thing and doesn't try to be.

I can understand and this was one big issue I had at a recent blog conference I attended. Many people were all about creating your "brand" and blah blah blah. To be truthful, my FAVORITE blogs are the ones where the author is just themselves. And yes that means being someone different every day sometimes or maybe the same thing day in and day out, but it's just them being "them" and that's what we really want! : )

it's hard to define yourself, when you don't see yourself as that easily definable. know what i mean? i could never see myself as just ONE thing, so i'll never be able to be like- oh i'm ONLY this. or i'm ONLY that. but if i have to try to force myself into just one category, i choose the category of awesome. that's right. awesome. lol

I think it's totally appropriate that your blog is a mish-mash. Mine is, too. But, hey, life's a mish-mash, and how can you not blog about life?
